A DSLR is how much?!

So you want to buy a DSLR. Congratulations! Pick a price point FIRST. There are plenty of cameras out on the market in various price ranges so you can stop loading your grocery cart with Ramen noodles. If you are comfortable with spending $3,000 USD then go for the Nikon D7000 (not because I said so, but because then when I have an issue, I can contact you.) DSLR purchases are very personal. Like security blankie personal. You will see what I mean.

For Bookworms

Before you go onto a forum and ask questions, (where you will be unceremoniously told to read your manual for just about any question you ask) you should really read your manual. Then get a good book specifically about your camera. I preferred the ones with lots of arrows pointing at the pictures and the least condescending text. Overlapping information but I needed all the help I could get. Avoid books if their purpose is to try and explain digital photography. Hopefully, if you are thinking of buying a DSLR, you already know what digital photography is.

Battery charged!

What to do, what to do. Button mashing seemed inappropriate for this momentous occasion. My very first pics with my super duper DSLR camera! Obviously Auto Mode looked rather appealing. Click, click, click... wait a minute. The pictures looked like my 5MP $250 camera. Oh, that's right, the books! A mere 6 hours later and I was able to take the picture of the cat you see above. I must say, at the time, I thought this was the best picture I had ever taken in my entire life. I finally got the cat to stop playing with the lens as it got closer and I had the dial set to "M" for Manual mode. Go me!
